Licensed Practical Nurse

The LPN provides sage and individualized nursing care to patients in the Community Living Center (CLC) setting. The LPN interacts, collaborates, and communicates effectively with the Veteran, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff both internal and external. The LPN initiates appropriate actions based on observation of the patient's condition. She/he provides a full range of LPN care to patients with a variety of physical and psychological needs.

Duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide modalities to veterans that have multiple complex medical or emotional conditions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
• Has the ability to observe, identify and respond to patient's needs for care including medication, equipment assisted care and patient family education.
• Demonstrates adherence to VA and Nursing policies/procedures and standards and maintains competencies consistent with role responsibilities.
• Assists the RN/provider and other staff by proactively identifying and addressing the veteran's needs and readily recognizes the more subtle signs and symptoms of changes in the veteran's condition and take appropriate action.
• Teaches and documents health concepts to veteran, including learning needs and readiness to learn. Is self-directed in seeking out and participating in learning opportunities for the veteran.
• Demonstrating skill/knowledge/ability to perform treatments, procedures and the use and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties.
• Accurately reports pertinent, signs, symptoms, conditions, and behavior of patients to the RN/provider as deemed necessary by the patient's condition.
• Accurately and timely records all patient data, and education in the medical records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

12 hours tours including weekdays, weekends and holidays. Tours are determined on the needs of the service.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
