At Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), we believe that science thrives when it reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. That’s why we have partnered with the Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN) to launch the Black Student Recruitment Initiative (BSRI), an effort to connect Black students in the sciences with meaningful student opportunities at DFO.

The Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) is a major Government of Canada ocean research facility located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. BIO is the largest ocean research station in Canada.

Opportunities

Several opportunities exist depending on areas of Chrysler expertise, including work in data management, coding, app or database development; supporting the provision of science advice through document editing and meeting logistics; and assisting the development and maintenance of partnerships, including efforts related to reconciliation initiatives and outreach/engagement activities with the fishing industry or academic partners.

Requirements
  • Science or Marine-related Experience – Field or lab experience generally required.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to communicate science information to a variety of audiences.
  • Microsoft Office Suite – Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. is very helpful.
  • Attention to Detail – Strong attention to detail is important.
  • Coding / Data Management – Familiarity with R or Python, or experience with data management is useful but not required.
