Description:

This position is responsible for teaching Grades 7 & 8 STEM courses focusing on the Engineering Standards from the MA State Science Frameworks for Middle School. Each course will meet 45/180 school days as students rotate through the different disciplines. Lessons are hands-on and typically use the Engineering Design Process while teaching concepts such as communication and transportation systems. Knowledge of code.org

is a plus.

Responsibilities:

* Demonstrate knowledge of subject areas outlined by the MA state frameworks

* Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when students are participating in a hands-on activity using tools and lab equipment

* Provide students with opportunities to become technologically competent

* Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and communicate these objectives to students

* Use informal and formal assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses and adjust instruction accordingly

* Appreciate cultural diversity and the importance of communications skills reflecting sensitivity to the feelings of all persons

* Prepare lessons that reflect adaptation for individual student differences

* Help students set achievement expectations and evaluate their progress

* Administer appropriate assessments to measure progress and use the resulting data to inform instruction.

* Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documentation

* Communicate, including electronically, student progress and development to parents

* Attend and participate in faculty meetings

* Participate in professional growth opportunities.

* Participate in continuous refinement of the instructional program and the overall learning environment

* Use preparation/planning time to include participating as a team member in the continuous improvement process

* Carry out the school's disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner

* Any other relative duties or responsibilities as requested by the Building Principal and/or Program Director consistent with the BEA Contract

* Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.

* Stamina for 8 hours of student instruction and supervision

* Must be able to safely lift and/or move equipment and supplies as needed in the course of classroom instruction

Qualifications:

Massachusetts General Science Teacher License 5-8 Certification

SEI Endorsement

Master's Degree Preferred

Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I)

Successful completion of National Background check (fingerprinting)
