Bedford Public Schools Educational Support Professional (ESP-3) – Float (Remainder of FY26)
Job – Provides direct support to students with special needs in a general education classroom, delivers small group instruction, and implements individualized academic and behavior programs using Applied Behavior Analysis principles.
Responsibilities- Support classroom routines and reinforce social interaction programs such as Responsive Classroom, RULER, and PBIS, providing behavioral support in line with school expectations.
- Provide supervision and student support during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and hospital or crisis drills, escorting students to designated areas as guided by staff.
- Deliver small‑group or individual instructional support aligned with student goals, IEP benchmarks, and related behavior plans.
- Consult with teachers prior to daily classes to understand learning targets, success criteria, and classroom expectations.
- Support academic programs—including reteaching, reinforcing, reviewing, assessing, scribing, note‑taking, and data collection—plus behavioral programs with data collection, cueing, motor breaks, and implementation of behavior plans.
- Provide regular feedback to teaching and counseling staff on student progress and challenges.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to prioritize support for identified students while also engaging the broader student group.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and facilitate social skills across various school settings.
- Deliver crisis intervention when needed, using culturally responsive de‑escalation, verbal processing, and physical intervention methods as trained.
- Adapt to varying student needs.
- Perform other job‑related tasks or duties as directed by administrators.
- Integrate into the classroom setting, working under direction of staff to support student engagement and learning.
- Collect, record, and analyze data across multiple data points, enter data into spreadsheets, and provide graphs using Google tools.
- Acquire and consistently apply new skills and knowledge to support student engagement, behavior interventions, social interactions, and school day activities.
- Maintain flexibility in day‑to‑day priorities reflecting changing student needs.
- Work in multiple classrooms or environments during the school day.
- Maintain high confidentiality and professionalism expected of teaching staff.
- Anticipate and address unforeseen events associated with working with large groups of children.
- Maintain positive relations with students, parents, staff, and the public.
- Passion for working with children and students.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Knowledge of basic learning strategies.
- Knowledge of social–emotional learning (SEL).
- Knowledge of de‑escalation strategies and restraint protocols.
- Ability to work with diverse learning styles.
- Ability to collaborate as a member of a teaching team.
Ability to move with students between school environments, possess physical agility and strength, and follow proper safety protocols.
Additional InformationAn associate’s degree in psychology, education, or a related area is preferred.
Salary/BenefitsHourly rate: $28.18–$34.64 (annualized $35,006–$43,028). Benefits package described on the Bedford Public Schools benefits page.
