Through direction from the EHS Director, the EHS Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day environmental, health, and safety operations at QCi’s four semiconductor manufacturing facilities in New Jersey and Massachusetts. This role requires a strong environmental compliance background and encompasses hazardous materials management, chemical inventory control, emergency response readiness, and regulatory compliance activities. The successful candidate will play a hands‑on role in maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring the facility meets all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
The role will be based in Bedford, MA location and travel to the other locations as needed with 25‑30% travel expected.
- Oversee weekly eyewash/emergency shower and monthly fire extinguisher inspections across all sites; perform inspections directly at Bedford and ensure completion at remote locations.
- Coordinate and schedule hazardous waste pickups with licensed vendors, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and manifesting in accordance with RCRA and applicable state regulations.
- Conduct routine chemical audits to verify on-site quantities, confirm proper storage conditions, and maintain an accurate chemical inventory database.
- Oversee the chemical purchasing process by reviewing new chemical requests, assessing hazards, and ensuring proper documentation before materials are approved and ordered.
- Serve as an active member of the hazardous spill response team at the Bedford, MA location, responding to chemical spills and releases and performing cleanup in accordance with established procedures.
- Oversee environmental compliance programs including air permitting, stormwater management, wastewater discharge monitoring, and waste minimization initiatives as needed.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and recordkeeping for environmental programs such as Tier II, TRI, and hazardous waste generator requirements as needed.
- Conduct workplace safety inspections and audits, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Oversee the administration and delivery of EHS training programs for employees, including hazard communication, chemical safety, and emergency response procedures.
- Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure the SDS library is current and accessible.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring activities, including noise surveys, air sampling, and ergonomic assessments as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or science discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing or semiconductor environment preferably in an ISO class 4 clean room environment.
- Strong environmental compliance background with working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, RCRA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Hands‑on experience with hazardous waste management, including accumulation, labeling, manifesting, and coordinating waste disposal.
- Familiarity with chemical inventory management systems and chemical safety practices.
- Experience conducting safety inspections (eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers) and maintaining inspection records.
- Ability to wear and operate Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
