Unified Communications Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and cleared Unified Communications (UC) Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot our enterprise‑level voice, video, and collaboration infrastructure. In this role, you will bridge the gap between legacy and modern communication systems, with a heavy focus on both Avaya and Cisco Unified Communications portfolios.

Because this role supports secure government environments, an active DoD Secret Clearance is required upon hire.

• Design & Deployment:
  Architect, configure, and deploy Cisco and Avaya UC solutions, including voice gateways, session border controllers (SBCs), and video endpoints.
• Maintenance & Upgrades:
  Perform routine patching, major software upgrades, and hardware refreshes for both Cisco and Avaya ecosystems.
• Integration:
  Manage SIP trunking, H.323 protocols, and the integration/migration between Avaya Aura and Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) environments.
• Operations:
  Manage user provisioning, dial plans, call routing, voicemail systems, and emergency services (e.g., E911) configuration.
• STIG Compliance:
  Ensure all UC systems comply with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and maintain a strong security posture.
• Troubleshooting:
  Diagnose and resolve complex Tier 3 network, voice, and video issues utilizing packet captures and log analysis.
• Monitoring:
  Utilize monitoring tools to proactively track system health, capacity, and call quality metrics.

• Clearance:
  Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
• Experience:
  
  5+ years of dedicated experience in Unified Communications engineering.

• Cisco Expertise:
  Proficient with CUCM, Cisco Unity Connection (CUC), Cisco Unified IM & Presence (IM&P), Cisco Expressway, and Webex App/Meetings integration.
• Avaya Expertise:
  Proficient with Avaya Aura Communication Manager, Session Manager, System Manager, Avaya Aura Messaging, and Avaya Session Border Controller for Enterprise (ASBCE).
• Protocols:
  Deep understanding of SIP, H.323, MGCP, SCCP, RTP/SRTP, and QoS principles.
• DoD 8570/8140 Compliance:
  CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent (Required or able to obtain within 6 months).

Compensation: $125,000 - $130,000/year, 6 month contract to direct hire.
