Why choose between doing meaningful work and having a fulfilling life? At MITRE, you can have both. That's because MITRE people are committed to tackling our nation's toughest challenges-and we're committed to the long-term well-being of our employees. MITRE is different from most technology companies. We are a not-for-profit corporation chartered to work for the public interest, with no commercial conflicts to influence what we do.
The R&D centers we operate for the government create lasting impact in fields as diverse as cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation. We're making a difference every day-working for a safer, healthier, and more secure nation and world. Our workplace reflects our values. We offer competitive benefits, exceptional professional development opportunities for career growth, and a culture of innovation that embraces adaptability, collaboration, technical excellence, and people in partnership.
If this sounds like the choice you want to make, then choose MITRE - and make a difference with us. The Nuclear Weapon Systems and C2 Platforms department has an immediate need for a Project Lead (PL) for the Long-Range Stand-Off (LRSO) project-the next-generation air-launched nuclear cruise-missile that underpins the U.S. nuclear-triad modernization and the National Defense Strategy's integrated-deterrence mandate.
MITRE is seeking a motivated, results-driven professional to serve as both Project Leader and Technical Contributor, tasked with shaping the work program, controlling cost, schedule and deliverables, providing technical direction, and acting as the primary liaison to the government sponsor. In this role, the LRSO Project Lead will manage resource allocation, enact corrective actions for any shortfalls or overruns, and partner with MITRE resource managers in a shared-leadership model to align staff expertise with project needs.
The PL will drive the project to meet sponsor objectives, leverage MITRE-wide capabilities, and collaborate with MITRE and NEMD leadership to ensure alignment with the Nuclear Enterprise Strategy and NSEC outcomes for maximum impact. This position is located with the Sponsor at the Air Force Weapons System Program Office at Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, FL. Key functions:
* Lead, plan, execute, and deliver MITRE LRSO Project outcomes
* Build and maintain a team of MITRE engineers focused on data analytics, digital engineering and modeling and simulation.
* Collaborate with MITRE N130 division leadership, department leadership, and government sponsors to perform work shaping of the MITRE work program
* Collaborate with other project leaders across MITRE's Nuclear Enterprise to ensure the delivery of integrated solutions across the MITRE work program supporting LRSO and adjacent sponsors
* Identify operational or technical gaps in current (and future) systems and recommend mitigations for fielded or new systems in development
* Develop technical reports and presentations on analysis results, options, and recommendations
* Providing strategic and technical leadership as a trusted advisor to LRSO leadership.
* Develop a project work program with measurable tasks and outcomes aligned to MITRE and Nonclear Enterprise Mission Center (NEMC) objectives.
* Identify emerging-technology opportunities within LRSO technical domains and, through cross-MITRE collaboration and the utilization of internal R&D capabilities, deliver innovative solutions that satisfy the sponsor's requirements.
* Lead digital engineering initiatives that bring together digital engineering methods, data management, advanced analytics, digital twin capabilities, and AI to support the development of a coherent and effective digital ecosystem.
* Align digital capabilities with mission objectives to enhance decision-making, optimize performance, and improve lifecycle outcomes for the weapon system.
* Maintain a high level of technical quality and rigor on the project by leveraging MITRE' technical quality guidance and conducting in-progress task/analysis reviews, peer reviews, etc.
* Cultivate and sustain sponsor relationships with senior government officials in the LRSO program office by engaging with LRSO leadership on a regular basis.
* Manage all levels of project administration including resource management, financial management, project resourcing, meeting coordination, status reports, and facility management.
* Manage staff supporting the LRSO project to include on-boarding, handling and processing of requests for access to Sponsor space and systems as well as clearances and continual feedback to staff's leadership.
* Drive the growth of the necessary technical disciplines across MITRE and the NEMD, whether through networking with other MITRE subject matter experts (SMEs), hiring or staff development, that are necessary to successfully execute the work program.
Required Qualifications:
* Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree…
