The Nuclear Weapon Systems and C2 Platforms department within the Nuclear Enterprise Mission Division (NEMD) has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer to support Air Force Nuclear Weapon Center (AFNWC) NTX, a GFY
27 new-start effort. This role will support threat-informed mission modeling of Air Force and Navy platforms across all phases of conflict, and to assess survivability against nuclear, cyber, and electronic warfare threats.
MITRE is seeking a motivated, results‑driven professional to serve as both Project Leader and Technical Contributor, tasked with shaping the work program, controlling cost, schedule and deliverables, providing technical direction, and acting as the primary liaison to the government sponsor. In this role, the AFNWC NTX Project Lead will manage resource allocation, enact corrective actions for any shortfalls or overruns, and partner with MITRE resource managers in a shared‑leadership model to align staff expertise with project needs.
The PL will drive the project to meet sponsor objectives, leverage MITRE‑wide capabilities, and collaborate across MITRE for maximum impact.
This position is located at the MITRE site in Bedford, MA.
Key functions:
- Use AFNWC/NTX mission threads to evaluate the mission effectiveness of several Air Force and Navy platforms.
- Identify, assess, and recommend modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) capabilities appropriate for evaluating the end-to-end mission impact.
- Develop an end-to-end threat-informed mission model.
- Based on modeling outputs, identify operational or technical gaps in current and future systems and recommend mitigations or updated system requirements to improve mission effectiveness.
- Collaborate with government sponsors and MITRE's broader Nuclear Enterprise to align technical work with program objectives.
- Develop technical reports and presentations on analysis results, options, and recommendations
- Maintain a high level of technical quality and rigor by leveraging MITRE's technical quality guidance and participating in in-progress task/analysis reviews and peer reviews.
- Lead, plan, execute, and deliver project outcomes aligned with sponsor and NEMD objectives.
- Build and maintain a team of MITRE engineers with a diverse set of subject matter expertise.
- Collaborate with MITRE N130 division leadership, department leadership, and government sponsors to perform work shaping of the MITRE work program.
- Collaborate with other project leaders across MITRE's Nuclear Enterprise to ensure the delivery of integrated solutions across the MITRE work program supporting NTX and adjacent sponsors.
- Identify emerging‑technology opportunities through cross‑MITRE collaboration and the utilization of internal R&D capabilities, deliver innovative solutions that satisfy the sponsor's requirements.
- Cultivate and sustain sponsor relationships with senior government officials in the AFNWC NTX program office by engaging with NTX leadership on a regular basis.
