Commodity Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and executing supply and/or vendor management strategies for specific commodities, which ensure appropriate product quality and enhance the company's ability to ship on time while reducing total cost and lead‑time.

• Develop supply strategies for each assigned commodity.
• Seek solutions to minimize routine purchase transactions.
• Play a key role in strategic cost management initiatives.
• Prepare analysis and plans for negotiations; lead negotiations involving critical suppliers.
• Develop contracts and supply agreements that protect the company from excess inventory, insufficient supply, unfavorable payment terms, hidden costs, and supplier non‑conformance.
• Have a thorough understanding of assigned commodities including manufacturing processes, applications, global supply status, price trends, cost drivers, and product migration paths.
• Identify potential disruption in the supply chain due to changes in a supplier’s business, including their strategic direction, operating results, technical capabilities, and overall performance.
• Continuously seek to reduce waste in every activity and supplier‑related process or transaction.
• Purchase and/or contract for materials and services in accordance with company established practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors.
• Exercise the appropriate controls related to the legal aspects of purchasing.
• Oversee the activities of the buyers and senior buyers on the commodity team.
• Work with the Materials Manager and QA to maintain and implement an annual supplier audit campaign consistent with requirements for FDA and ISO 9000.

• BS degree in business or engineering.
• ISM (NAPM) certification preferred.
• Demonstrated record of cost reduction.
• Demonstrated computer literacy.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems and supply chain management strategies and concepts.
