Job Description
The Bedford Regional Water Authority is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Trainee to work under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. This role is responsible for performing assigned duties related to the efficient and proper operation of water, wastewater, and support facilities. The trainee will assist in maintaining essential infrastructure to ensure the delivery of high quality utility services to the community.
Responsibilities- Perform routine service and troubleshooting of pumps, electrical motors, controls, and electrical instrumentation at pump stations, well houses, and treatment plants.
- Execute routine maintenance, repairs, and installations of electrical panels, starters, lights, heaters, blowers, and other electrical devices under supervision.
- Inspect equipment for safety and ensure all necessary tools and safety gear are provided for daily assignments.
- Operate specialized equipment and perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance after each use.
- Troubleshoot and perform electrical installation and repairs on various industrial controls and utility equipment.
- Perform general maintenance tasks including masonry, plumbing, carpentry, and pavement work as required.
- Maintain detailed records and paperwork for new installations, repairs, alterations, and other completed tasks.
- Maintain the appearance of all buildings and grounds to ensure they remain clean and neat.
- Manage and maintain the assigned crew vehicle and inventory.
- Remain available for after-hours and weekend callouts for emergencies on a rotating basis.
- Complete other tasks and duties as assigned by the supervisor to support facility operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent graduate.
- Ability to work safely and strictly obey all workplace safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in water and sewer maintenance or general construction.
- Ability to comply with the Authority’s Vehicle and Equipment policy including a valid driver's license.
- Basic knowledge of welding, electrical repairs, PLCs, masonry, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Understanding of pump overhaul, repair, and industrial drive components.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.
- This position has no supervisory responsibility.
- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a thirty minute lunch break.
- Position is subject to being on-call during off-hours for emergency repairs and is considered essential personnel.
- Role requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Frequent physical exertion includes lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work is frequently performed outdoors in various weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to high places and toxic or caustic chemicals occurs occasionally in a moderate noise environment.
