Position: School Crossing Guard- Afternoons

Overview

Bedford Public Schools invites applications for the position of Crossing Guard. The district is seeking a part-time School Crossing Guard for morning and/or afternoon shifts. The Crossing Guard directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic at assigned crossings to protect school children and to provide for the orderly movement of traffic.

Responsibilities
  • Report directly to assigned crossing stations.
  • Be on time, properly uniformed and equipped.
  • Remain at crossing station until the conclusion of the assignment.
  • Ensure that children use the proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is moving.
  • Be alert for present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding the assigned crossings.
  • Submit to the Safety Officer a written report of any hazards with a recommendation for remedial steps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification (department will provide training).
  • Familiarity with applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations and procedures for directing traffic is a plus.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.
Hours and Compensation

The morning shift is 10 hours per week, with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:15 am to 9:15 am. The afternoon shift is 10 hours per week with a typical schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and Wednesday from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Pay rate: $21.81 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
