Staff Technician, Civil/Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist 2 – full‑time position located in Bedford, NH
. The role requires primarily field‑related technical duties with minimal supervision, 95% outside the office, frequent travel to job sites, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in various environmental conditions.
- Monitor geotechnical and environmental drilling and test pits.
- Produce boring logs with soil and rock core classifications and site geology conditions.
- Collect geotechnical and environmental soil samples.
- Use geotechnical and environmental instrumentation and equipment.
- Conduct site reconnaissance.
- Work independently on job sites, prepare detailed notes, and take photographs to document procedures and observations.
- Prepare daily/weekly field reports with figures, photographs, and summary tables.
- Travel out of state to project sites periodically for several weeks.
- Work on sites with asbestos present and wear Level C personal protective equipment, including Tyvek suits and respirators.
- Perform low‑flow groundwater sampling.
- Perform field tests on soil and rock.
- Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans, including participation in safety briefings and audits.
- Coordinate scheduling with contractors and subcontractors.
- Monitor the execution of field and lab testing activities completed by subcontractors.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Coordinate with internal project team members on a daily basis.
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related field.
- 2+ years of related work experience.
- Strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, particularly written field notes.
- Basic Microsoft Excel and Word capabilities.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites and the office.
- Familiarity with setting up and using GPS devices (plus).
- Experience directing subcontractors (plus).
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training preferred but not required.
