Automation Engineer
Location: Bedford, Ohio
Job Type: Full-time
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot control and instrumentation systems to resolve moderately complex equipment issues and provide engineering expertise and technical guidance to maintenance teams to perform repairs, design changes, or other corrections.
- Partner with the Engineering lead to support the design, specification, installation, startup, and validation of process control systems, electrical systems, and instrumentation for capital and upgrade projects, ensuring site specifications, standards, and cGMP compliance.
- Direct mid-level complexity group projects—identify, propose, and champion creative solutions, monitor progress, and maintain documentation such as as-built drawings and system documentation.
- Identify continuous improvement activities related to plant automation control systems in support areas, champion solutions aligned with site and department metrics, and research new technologies to improve processes.
- Develop calibration, preventative maintenance, and additional procedures for installed systems and instruments, and provide training and technical supervision to instrumentation, electrical personnel, and flow technicians.
- Other duties as assigned may include:
- Drive internal communication and ensure knowledge sharing across all colleagues for operational effectiveness and consistency.
- Actively support the business model effectively and consistently, fostering a continuous improvement culture.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in process control systems encompassing instrumentation, automated control, and electrical distribution, preferably in the chemical, food, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Experience with network and system administration of Microsoft-based systems, Visual Basic, and SQL.
- Experience in programming/troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Modicon, and Siemens S7 PLCs.
- Experience in programming and configuration of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems; experience with Wonderware products.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and AutoCAD.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to manage conflicting demands and present to various levels within an organization.
- Analytical skills to identify problems, recognize symptoms and causes, propose solutions, and make timely, sound decisions under risk and uncertainty.
Base Salary: $59,900 to $120,450 annually. The compensation for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, work location, prior experience, job-related knowledge, relevant skills and expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
