Job Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for managing the company’s federal, state, and local tax compliance and provision processes, supporting tax planning, and ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. This role partners closely with Finance, Accounting, and external advisors.

Responsibilities

Tax compliance and reporting

Manage preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, including extensions and estimated tax payments.

Coordinate preparation of sales and use, property, franchise, and other indirect tax filings.

Own the income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740, including quarterly and annual calculations, journal entries, and supporting work papers.

Maintain accurate tax records, schedules, and supporting documentation for all returns and filings.

Tax accounting, planning, and risk management

Analyze tax impact of business transactions, corporate structure changes, and new initiatives, and provide recommendations to Finance and leadership.

Monitor changes in federal and state tax law and assess implications for the company’s tax position.

Support transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and legal entity restructurings as needed.

Assist in developing and implementing tax strategies to optimize the company’s effective tax rate while managing risk.

Audits, controls, and process improvement

Serve as primary contact for tax authorities and external advisors during audits, inquiries, and examinations.

Respond to notices and manage resolution of tax controversies in coordination with external counsel or advisors.

Maintain and enhance internal controls over tax reporting in line with SOX or internal control frameworks.

Identify opportunities to streamline tax processes, improve data quality, and leverage technology and automation.

Leadership and collaboration

Oversee work of tax staff or external preparers, including planning, review, feedback, and coaching.

Collaborate with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and HR on cross‑functional projects that have tax implications.

Prepare clear summaries and presentations of tax positions, risks, and recommendations for senior leadership.

Skills/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA required, or equivalent professional qualification with strong tax technical background
  • Typically 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in corporate tax, a combination of public accounting and corporate tax, or large regional firm experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state income taxation, including corporate and pass‑through entities; ASC 740 experience required
  • Experience with multistate operations and indirect taxes preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with major tax compliance and provision software (for example, One Source, Corptax, Alteryx, Power BI, or similar)
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize multiple projects, and work effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non‑tax audiences
