Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Director of Development, the Building Official provides leadership and oversight for all building related activities within the City. This position ensures that residential and commercial construction complies with adopted building codes, ordinances, and safety standards. The role also oversees zoning code compliance and provides management support for the Neighborhood Services (code enforcement) division. Responsibilities include administering third party plan review and inspection contracts, supervising assigned staff, and performing related administrative and regulatory functions.

This role oversees zoning code compliance and provides management support for Neighborhood Services (code enforcement).

Education and/or Experience- High School diploma or GED is required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, or related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field is preferred
- A minimum of four (4) years' commercial and residential building inspection work experience (municipal, preferred) is preferred
- Valid Texas Driver's License
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Must possess the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
