LGV Mechanic – Bedford

£17.64 per hour | 45 hours per week | Temp-to-Perm Potential

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client based in Bedford, who is looking for an experienced LGV Mechanic to join their commercial vehicle workshop.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanic with experience working on LGVs and commercial vehicles, looking for a long-term position with the potential to become permanent.

The Role

Pay: £17.64 per hour

Hours:

45 hours per week

Working hours:

Between 06:00 and 18:00

Location:

Bedford

Contract:

Temporary with potential for permanent employment

Experience working with LGVs and Class B vehicles is highly desirable

Ideally, candidates will hold a relevant driving licence

Key Responsibilities

As an LGV Mechanic, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs and assigned mechanical duties safely and efficiently, in accordance with company procedures, safety rules and relevant regulations.

Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out mechanical tasks and repairs safely and in accordance with instructions and company procedures.

Taking responsibility for your own safety and the safety of colleagues and others who may be affected by your work.

Identifying and reporting unsafe practices, conditions or potential hazards to your supervisor or line manager.

Using the correct tools and equipment for each job and ensuring damaged or unsafe equipment is not used.

Ensuring tools, equipment and PPE are stored correctly after use.

Ensuring guards are securely fitted and all required safety equipment and PPE are used.

Only operating plant and equipment when authorised to do so.

Reporting accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences and dangerous conditions promptly.

Switching off and securing unattended plant or equipment.

Avoiding improvised working arrangements and identifying safe solutions to potential hazards.

Working responsibly and ensuring your actions do not place colleagues or others at risk.

Taking a proactive approach to energy efficiency and suggesting ways to improve energy performance.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

An experienced LGV/Commercial Vehicle Mechanic

Experienced working on LGVs and Class B vehicles

Ideally in possession of a relevant driving licence

Mechanically skilled with a practical, hands-on approach

Safety-conscious and committed to high standards of workmanship

Able to follow instructions, procedures and safe working practices

Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team

Proactive in identifying and reporting mechanical, safety and operational issues
