Literacy Interventionist Job Description

Work Schedule: 190‑day contract. Teachers may periodically be required to attend after‑school or evening events as a normal expectation of their position. Work schedule is 7:30‑3:30 but may require attendance at before or after school events.

• Provide targeted, intentional, and high‑quality interventions to students in need of intensive instruction for struggling readers.
• Utilize High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) for instruction.
• Collaborate with the curriculum department and building administrators to plan programs for struggling readers.
• Conduct ongoing data analysis of student interventions to demonstrate achievement.
• Analyze school literacy data and collaborate with administrators on placement decisions.
• Serve on the Response to Intervention (RTI) committee as needed.
• Develop individualized intervention plans based on assessment data and student needs.
• Document interventions and progress for each student.
• Administer approved screeners to determine placement needs.
• Participate in parent conferences and provide instructional suggestions.
• Assist in planning, developing, and implementing school‑wide literacy initiatives.
• Serve as a reading resource for paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, and the community.
• Stay current on best practices and research in reading instruction and intervention.
• Participate in Professional Learning Communities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or curriculum team.
• Maintain professional standards of behavior.

• Valid, current teaching license for grade levels P‑4.
• Proficient in the Science of Reading.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
• Effective communication with students, administrators, staff, and the public.

• Solving practical problems and handling a variety of concrete variables in multiple situations.
• Interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

• Apply current research to instructional programs.
• Plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and student needs.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
• Speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
• Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
• Analyze screeners and testing data for curricular decisions.
• Proficiency with computers and related programs.

• Bachelor's Degree in Education (four‑year college or technical school);
  Master’s in Reading preferred but not required.
• P‑4 classroom experience required.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment background checks.
