Job SummaryThe HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems throughout the district. The technician ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes to provide a comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, compressors, heat pumps, and related controls.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment in accordance with established schedules.
- Install new HVAC systems and components as directed.
- Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to maintain proper environmental conditions and optimize energy efficiency.
- Respond to work orders and emergency service calls in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment, and other mechanical systems as assigned.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes and district safety policies.
- Order and maintain inventory of parts and supplies necessary for HVAC system upkeep.
- Collaborate with custodial, maintenance, and administrative staff to identify and resolve facility comfort or air quality issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Ability to diagnose complex system problems and perform repairs efficiently.
- Working knowledge of building automation systems and energy management controls.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and work in a variety of conditions (indoors, outdoors, confined spaces, elevated areas).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program or technical training in HVAC systems.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair preferred.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required. Documentation of HVAC License/Certification/Registrant merits a $2000 stipend.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Applicant must be willing to obtain a CDL within first 6 months of employment.
- Moderate to heavy physical activity, including lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and mechanical hazards.
- Occasional after-hours or emergency call-outs may be required.
