We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Controls Engineer to drive electrical controls and automation projects within the water and wastewater sector. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technical leader with deep expertise in industrial controls systems, AutoCAD Electrical, and PLC/HMI programming.
You will lead the design, programming, and commissioning of automation systems while providing technical direction, ensuring high‑quality execution, and supporting successful project delivery from concept through startup.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical controls and automation systems
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems across project life cycles
- Utilize AutoCAD Electrical to develop and review schematics, panel layouts, and documentation
- Provide technical leadership to engineers, designers, and field technicians
- Support control panel design, integration, testing, and startup/commissioning activities
- Collaborate with project managers, customers, and internal teams to ensure project success
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation issues during installation and operation
- Ensure compliance with NEC, UL508, and industry standards
- Assist with system optimization, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support customer training and post-installation technical support as needed
- 5+ years of hands‑on controls engineering experience in industrial or automation environments
- Strong background in PLC/HMI programming and electrical controls design
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (required)
- Experience in water/wastewater or similar process industries preferred
- Ability to lead technical efforts while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (preferred)
- AutoCAD Electrical (advanced proficiency)
- HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols
- Knowledge of NEC and UL508 standards
- Microsoft Office Suite and related engineering tools
