Essential Functions
The Pathways Navigator is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for CBC students to increase student retention, success, and completion. Responsible for quality success coaching/advising students. Assisting students with goal setting and providing continuous communication and follow-up to maximize goal attainment
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide quality success coaching/advising services to students
- Support students in the use of college resources such as the Cougar Den, Colleague, etc.
- Presents Student Success workshops throughout each semester, which include topics such as time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, etc.
- Assists students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning;
- Builds rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion;
- Monitors student progress toward goals by assisting with the Early Alert program. Assists students and instructors with problem-solving issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance
- Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as counseling, financial assistance, community engagement, etc.
- Maintain regular communication with students according to college protocols.
- Maintain records of student interactions as directed by the supervisor.
- Participate actively in program review and other assessment activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least 2-3 years of professional experience in a setting such as advising, career services, financial aid, admissions, student success, counseling, or a student affairs office. Candidate must have a genuine interest in the holistic development of students; knowledge of retention, student transitions, and learning strategies; effective communication and empathetic listening skills; the ability to collaborate with offices across campus to best serve CBC students;
the ability to prioritize caseload and provide consistent follow-up; and interpersonal skills to demonstrate hospitality as students are welcomed and integrated into the CBC community.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree or higher and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience working with diverse college student populations, including first-generation college students, are desirable qualifications. Experience providing academic and/or social support to first-generation, low-income, or underrepresented college students is preferred. Desirable: advising and/or counseling experience.
Supplemental Information
Will participate in college responsibilities such as Institutional Effectiveness Committee, Task Force, etc.
Travel Requirements
Travel is required for this position. Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance to travel to other locations to attend meetings/training. A personal vehicle is required if a CBC vehicle is not available. We encourage carpooling with other CBC employees.
Environment
Work is performed under limited supervision in a typical office and/or classroom setting. Position may require working evenings and weekends.
