Job Summary
Performs highly advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Oversees maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment, including lock and detention equipment.
Essential Functions- Oversees, supervises, inspects, schedules, assigns, prioritizes, and participates in general maintenance, construction, and lock and detention equipment repair, including preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance. Coordinates work assignments with other supervisors and provides technical expertise.
- Prepares estimates for work hours, materials, and resources required for projects; approves and initiates requisitions for materials and supplies; prepares reports and maintains records of repairs.
- Trains and supervises inmate maintenance and construction workers; ensures compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards.
- Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
- Six years of full‑time, wage‑earning lock and detention equipment maintenance and repair experience.
- Six years of full‑time, wage‑earning electrical, electronics, or millwright experience (preferred).
- Experience in supervising inmates preferred.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by state law.
- Knowledge of technical and mechanical engineering applications for security and detention equipment.
- Knowledge of agency and department structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations (preferred).
- Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
- Ability to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
- Ability to plan work to meet established guidelines.
- Ability to train and supervise the work of inmates.
Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, and bend repeatedly; lift and carry 45 lbs. and over; climb stairs and ladders; identify colors; have adequate hearing and vision; write, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, and operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment. Work may involve indoor and outdoor environments, machinery with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, noise, dust, grease, oils, solvents, and operation on ladders or scaffolding.

May involve travel by car, van, bus, and airplane. Must work quietly and safely in various conditions, including exposure to excess noise, working around machines, and irregular hours.
