Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Bel Air, Maryland

Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments as an on-site Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a school-based setting near the Baltimore area. This contract position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated team, providing individualized vision services across a closely located school cluster. The assignment can be tailored to your strengths—if you have exceptional Braille skills, more local placements at regional vision-focused schools are possible.

Otherwise, you may support students across a broader cluster, with in-person services scheduled thoughtfully for continuity.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver vision services to eligible students, implementing IEP goals within assigned school clusters
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings virtually (from a county school site), allowing for student-centric scheduling and support
  • Assess and differentiate instruction based on students’ visual needs, collaborating with a team of existing Teachers for the Visually Impaired and Orientation/Mobility staff
  • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and communication as required by the district
  • Adjust caseloads and student assignments in coordination with your strengths and experience, particularly regarding Braille instruction
  • Adhere to all district policies, including time-sensitive credentialing and background reviews
Qualifications:
  • Valid Maryland teaching certificate with Vision endorsement (Maryland State Department of Education)
  • Previous experience in schools as a TVI preferred
  • Skilled in Braille instruction and/or supporting students with varying degrees of vision impairment
  • Ability to travel between assigned schools within a geographically close cluster
  • Willingness to work on-site and connect virtually for IEPs (no home-based virtual work)

This assignment begins August 31, 2026, and runs through June 17, 2027, with full-time (37.5 hours/week) or part-time (full days only) options discussed during the interview. Interested candidates should be ready to provide documentation of credentials and complete required background checks.

If you’re passionate about advocating for students with visual impairments and adapting your skills to make a daily difference, we encourage you to apply now for an immediate interview!

Compensation for this position ranges from $27.50 to $47.50. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
