CAREER NAVIGATOR – TEACHER SPECIALIST (TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE)

Bel Air High School

To assist the Office of Magnet and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs and the School Principal in the implementation of Apprenticeship Maryland, Workforce Investment and Work-Based Learning Programs.

  • This is an 11-month Teacher Specialist position which requires 20 additional duty days beyond the identified 190 teacher calendar days.
  • Teacher Specialists are required to work one additional hour per day beyond the teacher schedule.
  • Position is eligible for the Teacher Specialist stipend.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Provides individualized career navigation and counseling to students as it related to the Blueprint for Maryland’s future career counseling requirements in collaboration with the Susquehanna Workforce Network, Harford Community College, and the HCPS Office of Student Support Services, with a focus on high school students.
  • Works closely with career counseling partners, career coaches, students, school-based teams, and local businesses to align career pathways, apprenticeships, internships and work-based learning experiences to meet the goals of each student’s career and post-secondary plans.
  • Assists with alignment to the Blueprint for Maryland’s future, local workforce needs as guided by Susquehanna Workforce Network, the HCPS North Star initiative, and the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
  • Assists teachers, counselors, career coaches, administrators, and program coordinators in developing students for career program participation.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Apprenticeships, Internships, Workforce Investment and Work Based Learning programs for grades 9-12.
  • Supports the coordination of regional workforce needs.
  • Coordinates with career programs such as work study and Harford Community College Workforce Investment.
  • Coordinates the administration of Apprenticeship Maryland including development, industry collaboration, job shadowing, and employment tracking.
  • Supports important career pathways, such as tracking student progress and hours for Child Development Associate (CDA Program).
  • Advances partnerships and relationships with local businesses to support student career exploration in Apprenticeship, Internships and Work-based learning opportunities for students.
  • Provides instruction to students to support career exploration and attainment including the development of cover letters, resume writing as well as interviewing and soft skills
  • Provides guidance and support to students regarding part-time experiences in order to support career readiness.
  • Plans and conducts professional development for teachers to promote instructional and programmatic improvements with the focus of workforce development.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum materials based on regional workforce demand.
  • Collects student forms, data and prepares reports for the Blueprint Career Counseling program and the CTE Office.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
SALARY
  • This is an eleven-month position. Salary range based on the FY  HCEA Salary Schedule for Certificated Teacher Personnel. Starting Salary: $69,371– Maximum Earnings Potential $126,020.
  • Certificated Teacher personnel are eligible to receive a $2,435 first year stipend.
