Financial Aid Processing Specialist

Start hourly rate range: $23.55 - $30.62
Hours per week: 20 hours
General weekly work schedule: 20 hrs/week 8:30‑5:00 Mon‑Thu and/or Fri 8:30‑4:30
ResponsibilitiesThe purpose of this position is to manage the accurate and compliant processing of financial aid applications while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations. This is accomplished by interpreting and applying relevant policies, reviewing and correcting FAFSA applications, awarding aid, verifying loan eligibility, and collaborating with other departments to support student success. The role also requires ongoing education on financial aid regulations and system enhancements, regular review of procedures and resources, and cross‑departmental coordination to promote successful registration and retention.
Employees must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non‑residents are expected to relocate.
Required EducationAssociate degree
Required ExperienceMinimum of two years of experience in finance, banking, or a related quantitative field such as mathematics.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Strong problem‑solving abilities including resolving discrepancies with data.
- A positive and customer‑focused attitude.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple complex and time‑sensitive projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to keep abreast of federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies and procedure.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- NASFAA credentialing.
- Knowledge of database programs and experience working with large databases.
- Experience working with Student Information System & CRM - Banner & Slate preferred.
- Experience working with technical and non‑technical staff at all organization levels.
- Experience with industry resources such as FSA Partner Connect, NASFAA.
Eligible to earn paid Sick and Safe leave.
Required participation in Maryland State Retirement Pension.
Eligible to participate in two optional retirement plans (403b & 457b).
