Hagar Enterprises, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to lead bidding, budgeting, and cost control efforts for our construction projects. This role is estimator-first, with secondary responsibilities supporting field operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and within budget.
Primary Responsibilities – Estimator (Core Focus)- Prepare accurate and competitive bids by reviewing plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Develop detailed construction budgets by analyzing drawings, scopes of work, labor, equipment, and materials.
- Project and control construction costs throughout the lifecycle of each job.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids from vendors and subcontractors.
- Analyze scope changes, site conditions, and add-ons to ensure pricing accuracy.
- Resolve cost discrepancies through detailed review and data analysis.
- Prepare reports related to bids, budgets, and project progress.
- Maintain estimating standards and documentation to ensure consistency and quality.
- Communicate effectively with corporate, division, and field teams to align expectations and execution.
- Stay current with industry trends, pricing, and best practices through professional development.
- Support team initiatives and contribute to overall company success.
- Provide oversight and coordination support to superintendents and forepersons as needed.
- Adjust crew assignments and schedules due to workload, logistics, or weather conditions.
- Ensure materials, equipment, and resources are available prior to job start.
- Maintain regular communication with customers and clients regarding progress and concerns.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
- Report progress and issues to senior leadership or ownership as required.
- Monitor safety compliance and stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Assist with equipment and vehicle inspections to ensure operational readiness.
- Support basic equipment maintenance and general jobsite needs.
- Perform general labor tasks when required, including material handling and installation support.
- Operate basic construction equipment as necessary.
- Work in outdoor environments with exposure to weather, construction materials, and road conditions.
- Some duties may require night work or extended hours during peak seasons.
- High school diploma or GED required;
Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred. - 8+ years of construction estimating experience, with hands-on project or field coordination experience.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost controls.
- Ability to pass required drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Combination of office-based estimating and on-site field support.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional nights and weekends during construction and plowing seasons.
- Exposure to active construction zones, vehicle traffic, dust, and noise.
