Purpose

& Scope of the Role

As a Principal Designer / CDM Consultant, you will be a key member of Tetra Tech’s Safety Management Team, delivering CDM and health & safety advisory services across a diverse portfolio of construction projects. Acting as Principal Designer, Principal Designer Support and Client CDM Adviser, you will help clients and project teams embed health and safety into design, planning and delivery, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and CDM NI 2016.

Principal

Designer & CDM Leadership

Lead and deliver Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM 2015 and CDM NI 2016. Provide expert CDM advice to clients and project teams throughout the design and construction process. Support the successful management of design risk on complex projects.

Construction Health & Safety Expertise

Deliver practical health and safety advice across a wide range of construction environments. Undertake site inspections, audits and reviews, providing clear recommendations and guidance. Promote continuous improvement in health and safety performance.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong relationships with clients, designers, contractors and senior stakeholders. Confidently challenge designs, methodologies and working practices where required. Facilitate collaborative solutions to complex health and safety challenges.

Technical Knowledge & Compliance

Apply strong knowledge of construction health and safety legislation and best practice. Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements effectively. Ensure projects remain compliant while supporting efficient delivery.

Professional Delivery & Self-Management

Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively. Work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Deliver high-quality outputs with strong attention to detail and professionalism.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Experience as a Principal Designer and Client CDM Adviser is essential, alongside proven construction health and safety advisory experience. You will hold a NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent), maintain relevant professional membership(s) such as IOSH and APS, and demonstrate ongoing CPD. A full UK driving licence is required.

This role is based in Belfast with a combination of office, site and client-facing work. Travel to project locations will be required. Tetra Tech supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements, offering a balance between office-based collaboration and remote working where project requirements allow. Expected office attendance will be discussed during the recruitment process and aligned with business and project needs.
