EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR (2026 - 2027)
RSU 71 is looking for an Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator. As Maine transitions to expanded responsibility for early childhood special education services, this role leads Child Find activities and coordinates the special education referral, evaluation, and service delivery process for preschool-aged children ages 3-5.
Responsibilities- Serve as the district administrative representative at preschool special education meetings, including IEP team meetings, eligibility determinations, and transition meetings, with authority to commit district resources and ensure provision of FAPE.
- Chair IEP meetings for Child Find, annuals, triennials, transition, and any other IEP meetings as needed, completing the written notices for those meetings and any state-required eligibility forms as needed. Guiding the IEP team in developing an IEP, aiding in writing the IEP, and completing assessments and observations as needed.
- Ensure the district meets its obligations to provide FAPE to eligible preschool-aged students in accordance with IDEA and Maine Department of Education requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for preschool special education services, supporting communication among families, service providers, and school teams.
- Support compliance with all state and federal regulations related to early childhood and preschool special education programming.
- Serve as a liaison between special education staff and building administration.
Applicant should have a strong knowledge of early childhood development and preschool instructional practices. Knowledge of Child Find processes, FAPE requirements, and IDEA regulations for ages 3–5. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The ability to collaborate effectively with families, staff, administrators, and community partners.
