Director Of Engineering
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and overseeing all engineering functions, including product development and design, testing and quality assurance, Lean initiatives, workflow development, and research and development. This role works closely with leadership across production, purchasing, supply chain, and sales, while managing a team of engineers. The ideal candidate is a self-driven leader who sets clear goals and holds their team accountable for achieving measurable results.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead and manage engineering initiatives across the organization
- Oversee certification processes including NFRC requirements
- Manage air, water, and structural testing in accordance with NAFS standards using both simulation and physical testing methods
- Maintain and update product and property drawings, including 2D and 3D designs, across all internal systems and databases
- Maintain and optimize operational floor layouts
- Oversee engineering and operational documentation including ECNs, PKCNs, SOPs, quality control documents, and first article inspections
- Provide technical troubleshooting and support to internal teams
- Ensure quality assurance standards are met and oversee non-conforming material inspections
- Maintain CSI specifications and related technical documentation
- Lead research and development initiatives
- Drive new product development and design efforts
- Create engineering drawings and detailed reports for R&D projects
- Identify and implement solutions for product and service-related issues
- Conduct product testing in accordance with industry standards
- Track and report R&D costs for financial analysis
- Maintain test data, reports, and records
- Drive Lean initiatives across engineering and operations
- Develop and improve workflows using process mapping, time studies, and efficiency analysis
- Lead continuous improvement efforts including Kaizen and Kanban activities
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures to improve efficiency
- Partner with cross-functional teams to foster a Lean culture focused on safety, ergonomics, quality, and productivity

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage and lead a team of three to four engineers
Skills, Experience, and Training Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
Four or more years of leadership experience
Four or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar design software
Experience with 3D printing technologies
Knowledge of CNC milling and G-code programming
Familiarity with AAMA/FGIA standards and testing requirements
Strong project management experience
Experience with thermal modeling
Knowledge of ASTM standards and testing procedures
Familiarity with IECC and IRC codes
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to lead teams and achieve performance goals and KPIs
