EQUANS are recruiting for an Electrician to be based in Belfast. This is a permanent full‑time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, van and fuel card and benefits package.
General OverviewThe Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within residential and commercial properties. This role ensures that all electrical work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and British standards, as well as company and client processes. The Electrician also diagnoses faults, performs necessary repairs, maintains electrical equipment to ensure optimal functionality, and carries out electrical installation condition reports.
The candidate must be willing to participate in an OOH rota.
- Carry out safe isolation in accordance with industry standards and company processes and where necessary document it.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring systems, equipment, and accessories, ensuring compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR), BS 7671 the wiring regulations (latest edition), and the relevant guidance notes.
- Inspect and test fixed wiring systems in accordance with BS 7671, guidance notes three and company & client processes.
- Inspect and test in‑service electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of Heating S Plans essential.
- Design, install, commission and maintain fire detection and fire alarm systems in domestic premises to BS5839-6 (latest edition).
- Find, repair or rectify faults on fixed wiring systems using a multifunction tester and other relevant equipment.
- Collaborate with other construction workers and tradespeople to complete jobs/repairs efficiently.
- Work safely and within the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and all relevant British standards.
- Provide high‑quality customer service and address client inquiries and concerns professionally.
- Perform any other reasonable management requests.
This position operates at operative level, with a significant impact on the safety and functionality of the properties serviced by the company. The Electrician’s work ensures the reliability of electrical systems, directly influencing client satisfaction and the company’s reputation for quality and safety. Effective performance in this role contributes to the overall success and operational efficiency of the Repairs and Maintenance Division.
ComplexityThe Electrician’s role involves a variety of technical challenges and requires the ability to think critically and solve problems efficiently. Routine tasks include diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, which requires a thorough understanding of electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot effectively. Complex problems, such as extensive repairs, may require collaboration with supervisors or specialised engineers. The Electrician must adhere to safety standards and regulations with practical problem‑solving in diverse situations.

- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification.
- AM2
- Or qualifications that predate the above, however you must be able to obtain an ECS gold card with the qualifications you hold.
- Level 3 Award in the requirements of electrical installations BS 7671 (latest edition)
- Basic knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in Construction
- Proven experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards, including the Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Valid ECS card
- Level 3 award in initial verification and periodic inspection, testing, condition reporting and certification of electrical installations (either studied as one qualification or separately)
