Are you a skilled Painter and Decorator looking for a rewarding role where your work directly contributes to maintaining and improving public buildings and facilities? We are seeking an experienced and motivated Painter to join our Property Maintenance team.
About the RoleAs a Painter, you will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of painting and decorating maintenance work across council properties. Working independently and as part of a team, you will help ensure buildings are maintained to a high standard while delivering excellent customer service and adhering to all health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out painting and decorating works as directed, including both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Prepare internal and external surfaces for painting and decorating.
- Apply a variety of finishes including undercoat, gloss, emulsion, varnishes, stains and glazes.
- Hang wallpaper and specialist wall coverings.
- Erect and dismantle access equipment and scaffolding safely.
- Identify, order and collect materials required for jobs.
- Complete work from schedules and specifications.
- Ensure safe use, storage and handling of paints, thinners and related materials.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety legislation, council policies and industry standards.
- Assist with the training and development of apprentices, new employees and temporary staff.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Drive council vehicles as required.
- NVQ Level II in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent qualification).
- Full current driving licence valid for Northern Ireland, or access to suitable transport to fulfil the duties of the role.
Applicants must demonstrate at least one year's relevant experience in:
- Surface preparation prior to painting and decorating works.
- Erecting and dismantling relevant access equipment while maintaining health and safety standards.
- Painting and decorating within a building maintenance environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
- Excellent customer care and interpersonal skills.
Applicants may be shortlisted preferentially if they can demonstrate:
- At least two year's relevant experience in the areas outlined above.
- NVQ Level III in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent qualification).
- Competitive Grade 4 salary.
- Fortnightly salary payments via BACS.
