For over 40 years, Northern Materials Handling has been supporting logistics, warehousing and industrial operations across NI, the UK and Ireland. Service excellence is central to our business, and we are currently seeking engineers/mechanics to join our growing team. Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out scheduled servicing, maintenance, inspections (including LOLER thorough examinations), and fault-finding on diesel, LPG, and electric forklift trucks, reach trucks, and other materials handling equipment Performing mechanical, hydraulic, engine, transmission, brake, steering, and mast repairs to minimise customer downtime Working independently at customer sites across Northern Ireland, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate Documenting job activities electronically, ordering necessary parts, and maintaining accurate records Communicating effectively with customers and collaborating with the service team Following all safety protocols, adhering to customer and company policies Maintaining and developing positive customer relationships through excellent service Upholding the companys image and reputation Keeping your company vehicle well-maintained, clean, and properly stocked No prior direct experience with forklifts or materials handling equipment is required.
However, this is a skilled, hands-on mechanical role that requires proven, relevant experience. Suitable transferable backgrounds include:
Plant / construction equipment (e.g., excavators, diggers, telehandlers, JCBs, dumpers) Agricultural machinery (e.g., tractors, loaders, harvesters, farm plant) Heavy goods vehicles / HGVs / trucks Commercial vehicles or heavy motor vehicle mechanics with significant hydraulic and mechanical work We provide training on specific systems, diagnostics, and manufacturer procedures to support your transition. Essential Requirements Full UK driving licence (essential role is fully mobile) Strong practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical fault-finding principles in heavy machinery Proven hands-on repair experience and/or qualifications in a relevant heavy mechanical field High standards of diligence, attention to detail, and ability to work unsupervised on customer sites Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach Right to work in the UK Desirable Trailer licence Welding or fabrication skills Any experience or qualifications in materials handling, forklifts, or related fields Familiarity with diagnostic tools or software Job Type: Full-time Benefits:
