YOURTASKS
The Department of Economics at Ghent University has two vacant positions for Teaching and Research Assistants (AAP). For these positions, a good knowledge of Dutch is recommended. Your tasks will include, among others:
- You will devote at least 50% of your appointment to scientific research in the context of preparing a doctoral dissertation within one of the department’s research domains:
Banking & Finance, Environmental Economics, International Economics, Labour Economics and Welfare, or Macroeconomics, Policy and Econometrics. - You will support the department’s teaching activities in general economics courses.
- You will supervise students in the preparation of their bachelor’s and/or master’s theses across the various programmes in which the department provides teaching.
- You will contribute to the department’s internal and external service activities.
In addition, the department has up to four vacant research positions (doctoral fellowships). These positions are primarily research-oriented, with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree, and include a limited teaching-related workload (maximum 10%). The positions are situated within the following research domains:
- one position in quantitative and empirical macroeconomics
; - one position in macroeconometrics
, with a focus on the statistical properties, bias correction, and inference of local projection estimators; - one position in international economics
, with a focus on the empirical analysis of the impact of economic policy on international trade and investment; - one position in health economics
, with a focus on health care system reforms.
For the position in health economics, thorough knowledge of the Belgian health care system is considered a significant asset. For this reason, this specific position is primarily aimed at candidates with a strong affinity with the Belgian institutional context. For the other research positions, international candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
In addition, professors of the department may also consider candidates from the pool of applicants for recruitment to ongoing or future research projects.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR- You hold a Master of Science degree in Economics, Business Economics, Business Engineering, Business Administration, General Economics (Complementary Studies in Economics), or an equivalent degree. You demonstrably rank within the top 20% of your graduating cohort.
- Final-year students who will obtain their degree during the 2025–26 academic year are also eligible to apply.
- An additional advanced / research master’s degree (Ma Na Ma ) in Economics is considered an asset.
