Offer Description

In order to promote high-level teaching and research in Bioethics and Research Ethics, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Law, and the School of Public Health at the Université libre de Bruxelles have joined forces to establish a Chair dedicated to these fields.

This Chair also responds to the broader needs of the University as a whole, which, as a research institution, requires recognized expertise in Bioethics and Research Ethics. Beyond the teaching duties within the four participating faculties (see the section Cours repris dans la charge au moment du recrutement, in the French version of the profile) and the growing vitality of research in these areas, the Chair is intended to fulfill several key missions: supporting research activities, contributing to the ethical evaluation of projects, and providing advice and expertise to the University in the fields of health and biomedical research.

The Chair also plays a role in representing the institution to various external bodies, such as hospitals and the Advisory Committee on Bioethics.

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Department of Philosophy, Ethics, and the Sciences of Religions and Secularism, primarily within the Research Centre in Philosophy (PHI), where he/she will conduct research in areas related to the Chair. He/she will also contribute to teaching across the partner faculties, with a maximum teaching load of 120 hours per year, and will supervise dissertations, master’s theses, and doctoral research within these fields.

Research Area:
Bioethics / Research Ethics

The successful candidate will conduct primarily philosophical research in the field of Bioethics and/or Research Ethics, broadly understood, without restriction as to approach or subject matter, provided that the work demonstrates a strong sensitivity to the realities of clinical practice, the health and biomedical research sectors, and the associated normative issues.

A solid understanding of the European institutional landscape related to the health, ethics, and scientific research sectors is expected.
