Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage grid from 380 kV to 30 kV. Elia is responsible for the development and maintenance of this network, opens it to users and regulates energy flows. As owner and operator of electricity transmission networks in Belgium and Germany, Elia has an important role and mission in supporting and implementing Europe's energy and climate policy.

Within Elia, the Grid Development – Power System Planning (GD/PSP) team is responsible for defining the required medium‑term investments in the transmission grid. These investments are defined so that the grid allows the foreseen evolutions (new power plants, penetration of renewables, new consumption patterns…) and stays operable with the required safety and reliability criteria. Besides that, the team is also responsible to evaluate connection requests coming from new or already existing grid users.

To accomplish the latter task, the GD/PSP team performs simulations of the grid behaviour which must be analysed to determine the type of contract (firm/flexible) that can be offered to the grid user.

The goal of the mission is to create an integrated tool based on existing scripts and on new scripts to be developed within the simulation environment which will prepare the model of the grid to be simulated for connection request. This latter part is currently performed manually, and the automatization is now required.

To create the automatization tool, we are looking for a python developer.

• Development of an industrialised full‑Python tool from requirements & already existing scripts.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of experience with Python‑driven Industrial Software
• 3+ years of experience using Python
• Background in Engineering, Mathematics or Physical Science
• An excellent knowledge of English and a basic knowledge of French and/or Dutch
• Efficient programming, to cope with vast amounts of data
• Modular programming, adaptable to changing needs
• Profiling and optimisation of scripts
• Knowledge of electricity or electric power systems (grid structure, localisation of electrical generation and consumption, load flow etc.)
