Senior Photonics Design Engineer – RF Design
Location: Belgium
Schedule: Full-time, Permanent
We are partnering with a leading R&D organisation in Belgium and the Netherlands to recruit a Senior Photonics Design Engineer specializing in RF design. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting‑edge silicon photonics technology for next‑generation optical communications and AI‑driven applications.
Role OverviewAs a Senior Photonics Design Engineer, you will join a dedicated team developing high‑speed photonic modulators. You will lead RF design projects, contribute to novel silicon photonics solutions, and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including test, driver, component, and processing teams.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead RF design of high-speed modulators, including traveling‑wave modulator designs, Balun, biasing, and termination circuits.
- Evaluate modulators across different material systems, leveraging physical effects such as Pockel’s effect and plasma dispersion.
- Develop new equalization techniques to improve device bandwidth and engineer dispersion.
- Interface with driver teams to deliver tailored solutions.
- Lead characterization of high-speed modulators and validate photonic components, subsystems, and circuits.
- Define test plans and analyze experimental data during the R&D phase.
- Work closely with processing, component/module, and test teams to ensure successful device development.
- PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 3+ years’ experience, or MSc in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 6+ years’ experience.
- Design of photonic components in silicon photonics or III/V materials.
- Proven track record in managing high-speed modulator development projects.
- Hands‑on experience with RF modelling tools and RF characterization of high-speed components.
- General knowledge of silicon photonics devices and process flow.
- Experience with layout tools (e.g., Luceda Ipkiss).
- Experience with Python and Linux is advantageous.
