Job Description

Environmental Manager – BU Belgium-Luxembourg

The Environmental Manager is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving the environmental management system across both project and business unit levels within the Belgium-Luxembourg Business Unit. This role combines strategic leadership with operational support to ensure full compliance and alignment with BESIX Group’s environmental ambitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the environmental management system at both project and business unit level.
  • Lead and coach a team of two Regional Environmental Coordinators.
  • Ensure all activities (projects, offices, and fixed facilities) comply with client requirements, legal obligations, and internal environmental standards.
  • Guarantee the correct implementation of ISO 14001 and the CO₂ Performance Ladder management systems to maintain certifications.
  • Roll out the BESIX Group environmental strategy within the Belgium-Luxembourg Business Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • The ISO 14001-certified environmental management system.
    • The CO₂ Performance Ladder-certified system, including:
      • Setting and monitoring reduction targets.
      • Managing data (collection, input into CO₂ software, analysis).
      • Biannual reporting.
      • Internal and external communication.
      • Stakeholder engagement.
      • Follow-up on BU/entity-specific reduction programs and action plans.
      • Coordination of innovation and sector initiatives.
      • Monitoring CO₂-awarded projects.
      • Collaboration with the Group CO₂ PL Manager.
Supporting Activities
  • Contribute to prequalification and tender processes when requested by the QHSE Tender Manager.
  • Represent BESIX in external environmental initiatives (e.g., ADEB-VBA).
  • Deliver environmental training in line with the QHSE training matrix.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (part of the Integrated Management System).
  • Support the development of corporate environmental programs (waste, energy, carbon).
  • Assist in data collection for sustainability reporting (e.g., Ecovadis, CSRD, CO₂ PL).
  • Participate in the Corporate Internal Management System audit program.
Qualifications

Profile & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field.
  • Certified Environmental Coordinator – Level

    A.
  • Additional degrees in technical or environmental disciplines are considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a complex, multi-project environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of the CO₂ Performance Ladder is a significant advantage.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams across diverse operational and cultural contexts.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch; proficiency in French is a strong plus.
