The vibrant Ageas Corporate Centre in Brussels is home to a variety of Group level functions including, amongst others, Risk, Finance, Legal & Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Strategy, Business Development and Corporate Communications. It sets out the long-term strategy for Ageas and coordinates numerous initiatives across the Group to help realize the strategic ambitions. The Corporate Centre also facilitates knowledge and skills sharing amongst its local operating entities and JV’s, creating strong connections and leveraging on local strengths.

It represents the Ageas Group towards external parties, managing relations with analysts, retail and institutional investors, regulators, rating agencies and the media.

Your function

As a Legal Counsel specialising in Data Protection
, you will be part of the corporate legal team, providing expert legal advice and support on data related regulations and compliance across the Group. In addition, you will contribute to strategic data and AI initiatives, ensuring they are developed and implemented in line with regulatory requirements and Ageas’ Elevate
27 strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Regulatory Guidance Advise on all aspects of GDPR and provide expert guidance on broader regulatory frameworks, including ePrivacy, cybersecurity regulations, the EU Data Act and AI Act, with a deep understanding of their impact on the Group’s activities.
  • Contract and Policy Management Draft, review and negotiate supplier and intragroup agreements, focusing on data processing and security aspects. Prepare and maintain privacy notices, internal policies, and guidance on personal data handling and governance.
  • Strategic Partnering Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, offering pragmatic, business-oriented and legally sound solutions to data-related questions, including in relation to AI and advanced analytics projects.
  • Innovation and Projects Lead and participate in cross-functional projects, serving as legal partner to Ageas’ strategic innovation initiatives, where Data and AI are key pillars of Ageas’ Elevate 27 strategy.
  • Collaboration Work closely with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal security practices.
  • Monitoring and Training Monitor legal and regulatory developments in data protection, data governance and AI. Translate developments into actionable guidance and deliver targeted training to staff.
  • External Counsel Management Coordinate with external counsel on data‑protection or data‑related matters, including regulatory queries, disputes or specialised AI‑related topics.
  • Cross-Border Collaboration Work with colleagues across Europe and Asia on international projects with multidisciplinary teams.
Your profile
  • You hold a Belgian master’s degree in Law.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in a reputable law firm or with the in‑house legal department of a significant player. Experience in the financial services or insurance sector and/or with issuers listed on a stock exchange is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of English, French and/or Dutch (both orally and in writing).
