Sortbat is a European leader in the collection, sorting, and recycling of batteries, dedicated to closing the loop in the circular economy. As part of the Sortbat Group, we drive sustainability by linking battery collection and processing with innovative reuse pathways. To strengthen our innovation roadmap, we participate in national and European funded projects (VLAIO, EU Horizon, and others).

These projects support the development of new technologies, intellectual property (IP), and in‑house competencies that are critical to Sortbat’s growth.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager – Funded Projects to lead and coordinate Sortbat’s funded project portfolio. This is a leadership position, where you will manage the funded project team and act as the key link between company strategy, proposal writing, and project execution. Beyond leadership, this role requires hands‑on technical input and product knowledge to ensure proposals and deliverables are realistic, impactful, and aligned with Sortbat’s core technologies.

You will be accountable for budgets, resources, timelines, and deliverables, while working closely with R&D, operations, and external partners. You will initially manage a team of three, with the opportunity to expand as the project portfolio grows.

• Proposal & Strategy Alignment:
  Coordinate and manage the proposal writing process for VLAIO, EU Horizon, and other funded projects. Ensure alignment between company vision, IP creation, and in‑house competency development. Provide technical input and product knowledge in proposals and project plans. Prepare and own budget proposals in collaboration with finance and management.
• Project Leadership & Execution:
  Act as owner of the project budgets, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting. Translate proposals into work packages (WPs), timelines, and resource allocations. Manage multiple funded projects in parallel, balancing priorities and stakeholder needs. Coordinate with partners, research institutes, and funding bodies to ensure smooth execution. Setup and implement project management tools and processes to handle funded projects efficiently.
• Team & Stakeholder Management:
  Lead and coach an initial team of 3 project staff. Assign resources and tasks across WPs and monitor progress. Ensure quality of deliverables and identify risks early with mitigation plans. Report progress to management and funding bodies with clear KPIs.

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Business with technical affinity. Background in budget management, proposal preparation, and reporting. Demonstrated ability to provide hands‑on technical input and product knowledge in innovation projects. Experience with resource planning, work package structuring, and risk management. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in parallel. Communication skills to engage with internal teams, external stakeholders, and funding agencies.
  
  Proactive and structured, with a focus on quality and deadlines.
• Additional Assets:
  Experience with setting up project management tools (e.g. Jira, MS Project, or similar). Knowledge of funded project frameworks (EU Horizon, VLAIO, LIFE, CEF, etc.). Background in innovation‑driven or technical projects. Familiarity with IP creation and technology transfer processes.
