Researcher Profile First Stage Researcher (R1)

The PhD candidate will work on statistical topics related to the analysis of discrete choice experiments. Discrete choice experiments are used to study how people make decisions by asking them to choose between carefully designed alternatives. The results can be used to optimize products or to estimate willingness-to-pay for particular attributes. The goal of this project is to further develop choice models so that they better capture important features of real-world decision making, such as heterogeneity in preferences, choice heuristics or context-dependent choice behavior.

Responsibilities

Contribute to research on statistical methods for discrete choice models and their applications in economics and econometrics.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should have a very strong interest in statistics, econometrics, or mathematics and preferably hold a Master of Science in Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Economics, Business Engineering, Economics, Civil Engineering or Computer Science.
  • An average degree of “distinction” during preliminary studies (bachelor and master) is required, as well as an appropriate knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Experience with at least one programming language (such as R) is an asset. Also candidates that are currently in the final year of their Master studies can apply.
Offer and Starting Date
  • We offer an employment as full-time doctoral scholar for 1 year, renewable up to a maximum of 4 years after positive evaluation. The tentative starting date is 15 September 2026, depending on the availability of the candidate.

We expect an application letter with motivation and a detailed curriculum vitae with study results and the names of two persons that we may contact for reference letters.
