The Molecular Vaccinology and Vaccine Discovery (MVVD) group at the Rega Institute, KU Leuven, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Virology, with a strong focus on vaccinology and viral pathogenesis. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to high-impact research on the yellow fever virus and related orthoflaviviruses, translating fundamental insights into innovative vaccine and therapeutic strategies.
The role builds upon recently published and forthcoming studies in leading journals such as Nature Communications, Nature Immunology, and Nature Microbiology, aligned with the group’s pioneering Reverse Vaccinology 3.0 approach—moving from disease pathology to targeted intervention.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop an independent research line within the MVVD group
- Design and coordinate in vitro and in vivo studies to investigate host–pathogen interactions
- Develop and optimize advanced antibody characterization assays, including ADE and ADCC
- Implement yeast-surface display techniques for antibody–antigen interaction mapping
- Contribute to the development and analysis of transgenic and knockout mouse and hamster models
- Mentor and supervise Master’s and PhD students, as well as guide technicians
- Ensure high-quality data analysis, documentation, and reporting
- Actively participate in grant writing, scientific presentations, and collaborative research initiatives
- PhD in virology, molecular biology, or a related discipline
- Strong molecular biology expertise is essential, complemented by experience in virology and immunology. Desired skills include:
- Molecular cloning and plasmid design, including infectious clones
- Lentiviral systems for gene delivery and functional studies
- Advanced immunological assays (ADE, ADCC)
- Cell-based virus assays and multi-color flow cytometry
- Experience with animal models (FELASA B/C or equivalent preferred)
- Familiarity with BSL-3 laboratory procedures
- Bioinformatics and transcriptomic data analysis
Interested candidates should apply via the KU Leuven online job portal and submit:
- A motivation letter outlining research experience and fit for the role
