Job Overview
Main job purpose:
The VCM, OCD R&D Manager contributes to the sustenance and growth strategy of the INOVYN PVC and OCD businesses by constantly monitoring and improving the Ethylene Dichloride (EDC), Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) and OCD processes and developing new technologies in these fields. The role provides and develops deep scientific and chemical expertise to the wider INOVYN organisation.
- Steer and manage the R&D projects portfolio in line with business and production site requirements.
- Develop new oxychlorination catalysts and VCM‑EDC production processes; develop new OCD products and production processes, including valorisation of CAL‑EPI co‑products.
- Provide key chemical and scientific expertise and input to the wider INOVYN organisation.
- Manage the VCM and OCD (R&D) laboratories located at Jemeppe (BE) and Porsgrunn (NO).
- Develop know‑how tools, support a deep scientific and chemical understanding, and give trainings on VCM and OCD to the wider organisation.
- Manage the OCD and VCM Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.
- PhD in chemistry or chemical engineering, or equivalent through extensive proven experience.
- 15+ years of applied industrial R&D experience with a demonstrated track record of R&D achievements, including at least 2‑3 years of managing an R&D team.
- High scientific understanding of chemical industrial processes and equipment with a strong background in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis and organic chemistry.
- Experience in various R&D fields, companies, production versus research is a plus.
- Knowledge of EDC, VCM, ethylene, OCD and catalyst production processes (hazards, process chemistry, optimisation, chemical engineering principles, material science, analytical and characterisation).
- Knowledge of process explorer/database tools such as ASPEN and Sci Finder.
- Commitment to a safe work environment.
