Offer Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate secondary nucleation mechanisms in crystallization processes within the ERC Advanced Grant project Crystal Control.

The project challenges conventional understanding by studying how crystal contact and surface properties drive secondary nucleation, enabling new strategies to control crystal properties in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Research Focus

  • Experimental investigation of contact-driven secondary nucleation
  • Study of crystal growth regimes and surface roughening
  • Design and testing of structured crystallizers to control crystal contact
  • Linking experimental insights to mechanistic understanding of nucleation
  • Requirement: MSc in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline with strong overall marks
  • Knowledge of flow chemistry and crystallization will be regarded as a plus
  • Adequate English ( written and verbal communication) for scientific interactions required
  • Strong motivation is a must
  • Willingness to work at interdisciplinary boundaries

The successful candidate will be offered a PhD fellowship to become part of our international team with global research linksto work towards a PhD. Funding can be provided for a period of 4 years.
