YOUR TASKS
- At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research e in analytical chemistry. You prepare a doctoral dissertation on this theme of substances of very high concern, complex bio-based materials, or sensors (with flexibility depending on the candidate’s expertise).
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, more specifically in General Chemistry I and II, Engineering Project (new course) within the Bachelor of Science in Bioscience Engineering Technology, and the Integrated Practical Classes in Advanced Organic Chemistry within the Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering:
Chemistry and Bioprocess Technology. - You will guide students during internships, bachelor and master theses
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a degree of Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering Technology, Master of Science in Biochemical Engineering Technology, Master of Science in Chemistry or a similar Master degree that is considered relevant by the selection committee.
- The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment
- For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
- You have a demonstrable knowledge of and a strong interest in Chromatographic and Spectroscopic techniques.
- Industrial experience is considered an asset.
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services, particularly in the field of instrumental method development.
- You are motivated to take on teaching responsibilities, such as supervising practical sessions, delivering exercise classes, and guiding research projects.
- Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended
- You have didactic, communicative and organizational skills
- A very good knowledge of Dutch is essential to be able to assist in the teaching activities in the (Dutch-taught) Bachelor’s programmes
- You are very proficient in English.

- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention:
If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education - Your appointment will start on 1 March 2026at the earliest
