BriefPosition Overview
The School of Film & Photography seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable instruction in the School’s Film Option: film and related media studies, film production, industry, acting, directing, scriptwriting, production management, science communication, wildlife and nature filmmaking, and digital media.
Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Appointments are on a part‑time basis and vary in duration (a few weeks, a semester, or an academic year). Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesApplicants are expected to:
- Teach in‑person or online courses with availability on campus.
- Advising, evaluating, and assisting students and/or faculty.
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the academic success of students.
- Terminal academic degree in a relevant field or comparable professional experience.
- Demonstrable skills appropriate to the specific course(s).
- Demonstrated experience working with and engaging students and colleagues within and outside the department.
- Significant record of accomplishment related to the desired teaching area(s).
- Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff enrichment.
- Mentor and inspire a broad student body.
- Have effective interpersonal skills, including collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Any position with 0.5 FTE or greater is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Positions below 0.5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues. If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status may be impacted. Exceptions: faculty who have successfully completed a PEI exam or who work in Extension are exempt from the Union.
