This position seeks faculty to teach American Studies courses on an as‑needed basis, either on‑campus or online.
General StatementMontana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non‑tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and will be maintained in the hiring pool for two years.
Responsibilities- Teach on‑campus or online courses.
- Advise, evaluate, and assist students.
- Develop curriculum and/or course development.
- Participate in weekly faculty meetings.
- Meet regularly with, collaborate with, and evaluate peer leader, if one is assigned to your section.
- Master’s Degree in American Studies or a related field.
- Experience teaching American Studies courses at a college or university level.
- Ability to relate to first‑year students and develop classroom rapport.
- Ability to mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Skillful use of engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process.
- Initiative and ability to work independently.
- Potential to provide leadership and assume responsibility for organizational and program activities.
- Non‑Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is 0.5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. (Condition of employment.)
- Any position less than 0.5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.
- If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status of this position could be impacted.
- Exceptions:
Those who have successfully completed a PEI exam or are faculty working in Extension are exempt from the Union.
Appointment Type:
Non‑Tenure Track (Pooled) – Contract Term other. Semester:
Fall or Spring (if other, specify). Salary: commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications. FTE varies; benefits eligibility depends on FTE.
This position is not eligible for new sponsorship.
