Liberal Studies Non‑Tenure Track Faculty (Applicant Pool)

Full‑time, contract, negotiable salary; FLSA exempt; appointment type:
Non‑Tenure Track (Pooled). Position numbers: 4A6616 (campus hire) or 4A6140 (online hire). Appointments are part‑time and may range from a few weeks to a semester or academic year.
Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non‑tenure level instruction in Liberal Studies courses (LS 101, LS 301) and related functions. Instructors will be scheduled for fall and spring semesters as needed and may be retained in the hiring pool for up to two years.
Responsibilities- Design and deliver Liberal Studies or Liberal Studies Online courses as assigned.
- If teaching online, complete specialized online training and attend regular workshops.
- Assist with curriculum and course development, when applicable.
- Collaborate with other faculty to ensure consistent standards across courses.
- Participate in faculty meetings and program/university assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Maintain appropriate office hours or availability for student questions and concerns.
- Meet and collaborate with assigned peer leaders/mentors; evaluate their performance.
- Master’s degree in a field related to humanities, social science, natural science, or fine arts.
- PhD in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses.
- Knowledge of college student development.
- Terminal degree in a related field.
- Ability to build classroom rapport and employ engaging pedagogy.
- Mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Independent initiative, good judgment, and self‑direction.
Any position from 0.5 FTE or greater may be represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Positions below 0.5 FTE are not represented by the union. Union status may change if the FTE changes during employment.
