Transportation Security Officer - Belgrade, Montana

Position Summary

Transportation Security Officer (TSO) within Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner.

• Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
• Performing searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers (pat‑downs, search of property, etc.), bag searches, carrying bags, bins, property weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
• Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
• Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment, identifying and locating potentially life‑threatening or mass‑destruction devices, and making effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
• Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills and applying risk‑based security screening protocols.
• Retaining and implementing knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrating responsible, dependable behavior, and adapting to new information or obstacles.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Background check required (Credentialing, Suitability/Fitness, National security).
• Security clearance may be required depending on position sensitivity and risk (Noncritical‑Sensitive/Moderate Risk).
• Knowledge of TSA‑approved personal protective equipment; adapter to required PPE.

Base salary range: $60,000 to $75,000. Salary for Belgrade, MT: $53,021 to $65,371 per year ($25.41 to $31.32 per hour) including locality pay and retention incentive up to 15% of adjusted pay.

Sign‑on bonus up to $10,000, paid in two installments during the first 12 months of service (subject to change).
