JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment used in utility line construction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid (Class

    A) Interstate Commercial Driver’s License is required (or the ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • High school diploma, or its equivalent, and 5 years of experience and/or training in vehicle/construction equipment repair, or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience repairing equipment used in utility line construction (e.g., digger derricks, aerial lifts, horizontal directional drills, forklifts, tractors, backhoes, excavators, and truck-mounted cranes).
  • Knowledge and experience with safe tool use in a shop setting.
  • Understanding of DOT inspection rules and requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements applicable to equipment operations, repair, and maintenance.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance; mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems; and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and use of power and hand tools.
  • Ability to work in remote settings with minimal supervision and to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations inside and outside Montana; travel schedule may be inconsistent.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and heavy equipment used in utility line construction (e.g., digger derricks, aerial lifts, horizontal directional drills, forklifts, tractors, backhoes, excavators, and truck-mounted cranes).
  • Order and requisition parts as needed and follow company purchase order procedures.
  • Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Manage shops, plant, parking areas, housekeeping, and disposal of trash and obsolete materials; recycle scrap and sell usable parts.
  • Ensure security of buildings, tools, equipment, and assets at all times.
  • Work in accordance with safety procedures and OSHA/company policies to address hazards or violations.
  • Receive repair requests from field crews; prioritize needs and coordinate vendor deliveries.
  • Travel to field locations as required; coordinate a field lubrication program.
  • Process and route paperwork (time sheets, packing slips, invoices, DOT information, expense sheets, faxes) accurately and timely.
  • Work Schedule:

    10-hour shifts, Monday – Friday.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Competitive pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour. Overtime is typical and paid at 1.5x regular rate.
  • Benefits include:

  • Retirement: 5% annual employer contribution; employer matches 50% up to 6% employee contribution.
