JOB SUMMARYResponsible for the day‑to‑day operation of company directional drill equipment primarily used in job site settings where the construction of overhead and underground telecommunication lines is performed.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Operate heavy machinery used in utility construction, including directional drill, tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, forklift, or excavator (excluding cranes). May operate within construction sites that include gas transmission and distribution pipelines, electric power transmission and distribution lines, and electric substations.
- Inspect and grease equipment daily, ensuring equipment is safe and ready for operations. Coordinate needed repairs with foreman and mechanics.
- Assist with requisitioning, handling and transporting materials, equipment, and hand tools used by crews during construction utilities. Perform this work when equipment operation is not needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment used in utility construction, with experience on directional drills required.
- Valid commercial driver’s license and current DOT medical exam card.
- Additional experience operating a directional drill.
- Current First Aid / CPR card or willingness/ability to obtain.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements for equipment operations, repair, and maintenance.
- Union membership that has jurisdiction over job site location.
- Ability to work successfully as part of a team as well as independently on occasion.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to emergency situations.
- Wage per the Montana Communications contract. Pay range based on experience: $24.70–$33.57.
