Position Summary

The Clinical Supervisor is a licensed behavioral health professional responsible for supporting the oversight, coordination, and quality of clinical services within the Behavioral health, Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and co-occurring programming. Under the guidance and supervision of the Clinical Director, this role provides supervision for staff pursuing substance use counselor registration and/or certification, as well as Behavioral Sciences Board (BBS) licensure, both individual and group, to SUD counselors and clinical staff in accordance with state, county, and funder requirements.

The Clinical Supervisor collaborates closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Manager, and Compliance Manager, and Clinical Services team to ensure consistent clinical operations, appropriate workflow, high-quality documentation, and adherence to regulatory standards. The position also provides crisis consultation, assessment oversight, and clinical leadership to ensure safe, ethical, and effective service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Supervision and Staff Development

  • Provide individual and group clinical supervision for SUD counselors, Clinical Services team members, and interns in accordance with applicable standards, scope of practice, and funder requirements.
  • Review clinical interventions, treatment planning, client engagement strategies, and documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Facilitate case consultation, case conferencing, and caseload reviews on a regular basis.
  • Support staff professional development, coaching, onboarding, and skill-building in evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ensure supervision activities are documented, maintained, and available for review as required.

Crisis Support and Clinical Decision-Making

  • Provide real-time consultation and direction during crisis situations, including safety concerns, behavioral health emergencies, participant decompensation, and high-risk incidents.
  • Guide staff in de-escalation, risk assessment, mandated reporting considerations, emergency service coordination, and appropriate level-of-care decisions.
  • Be available, as assigned, for clinical escalation, consultation, and on-call support.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up, communication, and documentation after incidents or urgent clinical concerns.

Assessment Oversight and Clinical Quality

  • Support oversight of screening, intake, biopsychosocial assessments, reassessments, problem lists, treatment plans, and ongoing service planning.
  • Review assessment quality to ensure clinical accuracy, medical necessity support, ASAM alignment, culturally responsive practice, and appropriate care coordination.
  • Conduct chart reviews and documentation audits to support compliance with Medi-Cal, DMC-ODS, SAPC, licensing, accreditation, and funder requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, corrective action, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Promote documentation consistency, timely follow-up, and service delivery practices that reflect person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care.
